Intralesional immunotherapy with Bacille Calmette- Guerin (BCG) vaccine for the treatment of cutaneous warts

Myriad of therapeutic modalities for warts are available but none promises complete response. Despite adequate treatment, the virus may persist in surrounding tissues leading to recurrence. Immunotherapy is considered better than destructive options where there multiple lesions, extensive involvement and best suitable paediatric patients. The aim study was evaluate efficacy safety intralesional BCG vaccine management cutaneous (common warts, plantar periungual warts). Patients age 12 years above clinically diagnosed with presenting consecutively outdoor clinic Dermatology, Venereology & Leprosy Department Dr. R.P. Govt. Medical College, Kangra at Tanda, Himachal Pradesh between June 2021 May 2022 were enrolled. administered into largest wart intralesionally injection repeated every 3 weeks a maximum four injections or till clearance whichever earlier. assessed patients followed up 6 months. Majority group 14-53 years. showed response 35.08% (20/57) partial 63.15% (36/57) while no 1.75% (1/57) end very low recurrence rate (5.2%). Plantar have responded excellently showing 91.5% 9.5% by palmar achieving 60% 40% reconstituted immunotherapy cheap, effective easily option which can be practised routinely. However, due its considerable adverse effects as compared other immunotherapeutic agents, we do not recommend it first line agent.
